Neurodivergent Patients

Sensory Adapted Dental Care

To meet you exactly where you are

Sensory Adapted Oral Hygiene Home Care

Oral hygiene routines can be adapted to each patient sensory needs. I offer home care products such as flavorless, non-foaming fluoride free toothpastes, alcohol-free mouth rinses, and specialty toothbrushes engineered to support more consistent home care for those with motor or sensory challenges.

Supporting Auditory Regulation

This space is dedicated solely to dental hygiene—designed to reduce auditory stimuli and support patients with sound sensitivities. Patients can also choose white noise, soft music, or none at all. No additional drills, suctions, or background chatter.

Visual Adaptations

I use adjustable, low-stimulation lighting along with soft visual elements like gentle ceiling projections or slow-moving bubble displays. I also provide alternative communication tools such as visual aids, social stories, and video modeling to help patients understand what to expect and feel more comfortable throughout their appointment.

Reducing Over Stimulation

Breaks are encouraged to help patients reset and reduce sensory overload. I also offer specialty glasses such as TheraSpecs® to filter harsh wavelengths from bright lights to ease visual discomfort. For those with oral aversion I use low-grit, unflavored polishing pastes  for a more comfortable cleaning.

Neurodivergent Patient Care Questionnaire

This form helps me better understand each patient’s unique sensory profile, communication preferences, and potential triggers. Whether you’re filling this out for yourself or someone in your care, the information you provide allows me to thoughtfully adapt each appointment—supporting a more predictable, low-stress, and positive dental experience from start to finish.
